March 1, 2006: Subaru / IMBA Trail Care Crew Visit Report Edit
Southern Nevada hosted two TCC units in February. Jill Van Winkle and Chris Bernhardt, as well as Ryan Schutz and Kristin
Butcher came to Vegas for our Trail Building School.
Friday night REI hosted our classroom trail building session. The crews handed out swag to participants who answered questions
right on the pop quizes.
We held our Outdoor Trail Building Session in Cottonwood Saturday morning. We had 21 or 22 participants working on a section
of trail in Red Valley that required some Rock Armoring, drainage knicks and basic trail restoration. We work about three
and a half hours to complete the project. After the trail work we headed down to the Latenight Trailhead and dug out the bikes
and treated the TCC crews to a sampling of the best in Cottonwood. We rode up Badger Pass to the BARTA connection above Red
Valley, rode our newly repaired trail section and then bombed back down Red Valley. We worked our way through the upper tunnel
and then down Viagra and out past Mud Springs so we could ride Black Velvet through the Cactus Garden and then back around
to the Latenight Trailhead for a 14 mile ride.
Sunday, we met in Bootleg Canyon for a short 12.5 mile ride up Par None, West Leg, Caldera Inner Loop to the lowest point(counter
clockwise) and then back on Caldera (clockwise) and down the way we came. During the ride we hooked up with Bootleg Canyon
Trail Master Brent Thomson for a little trail chat about the challenges certain hikers are creating for mountain bikers out
there. It was a great visit from the IMBA crews and we are looking forward to hosting them again this fall at Bootleg Canyon.
We'll post more information as it becomes available.

BARTA Receives REI Grant Edit
December 8, 2005:
BARTA recieves a $3500 grant from REI Assistant Manager Michael Harcarik in November. We are very excited to use the funds
for a stone Trailhead monumnet sign at the reworked Latenight Trailhead. Keep you fingers crossed for a fall 2006 completion
date. Edit
