Hi BARTA Members,

BARTA has made some changes for 2004 and wants you to be a part of it!  We will be getting together every third Saturday and alternating between group rides and/or trailwork.  Rides are unsupported and free.  Helmets are required to ride with the group.  Ride locations and times will be posted on the website at www.barta-nv.com so be sure to check it out for upcoming events.

Our first ride will be the new "Cowboy Trails" close to the Red Rock loop off of SR159 on February 21st.  We will ride at 9:00am.  These trails are a little more technical that Cottonwood and should be a fun ride.  These trails are located on the East side of SR 159 near the Red Rock Scenic Loop (where the horseback riders take off from).

In trailwork news, BARTA was successful in 2003 in obtaining approval from the BLM to mark and build a connecting trail from the top of Badger Pass down to Red Valley in Cottonwood.  This trail has been well received is ridable in both directions by enthusiasts of varying skill levels and is sustainable over time to erosion.  Formerly, the area only had a virtually straight up and down path that was becoming horribly eroded and could only be hiked up save for a few elite and skilled riders.  We plan to continue to work with the BLM on similar projects.  We encourage all members to voice their ideas for areas in need of improvement and/or realignment. Feel free to contact BARTA with your trail work and ride suggestions at email@barta-nv.com.

Judy Brandt has completed her term as President of BARTA and has been succeeded by Rob Haze.  Judy has spent many tireless hours meeting with land managers, planning events, and otherwise working for the good of Mountainbikers in Southern Nevada.  Judy we thank you for everything.

We look forward to a successfull 2004 and hope to see you on Feb. 21st.

Rob Haze
